Talan

Talan are the dominant species on Adelpha, they are similar to humans but are taller, with dark skin and bald misshapen heads.

AThey have a pre-industrial society that is highly religious - atheism is non-existent on delpha. It is evident that they have recently emerged from some sort of dark age; advanced technology and ruined buildings that pre-date their current civilisation can be found on Adelpha. The most prominent of these are the Daokas and the Well of Essence which have allowed talan culture to develop at an accelerated rate.

In talan society, males and females, young and old, are almost completely segregated. Females and children live on Kizaar, an island separate from the rest of talan society. Females are responsible for selection of mates and the raising of children. Every few hundred moons they allow all the males to come to their island where they choose what males they like (a talan female may choose multiple males to mate with). The males that aren’t chosen, take the mature children to the Well of Essence in Shamazaar where they hold the conversion ceremony and receive their essence.

It is believed that the Well of Essence awakens an energy in talan that enables them to perform tasks they wouldn’t normally be able to do. The first talan to discover this well was given the Ka essence; he soon discovered he could use it to heal people, and soon others came to the well and received other essences.

There are four essences that can be bestowed upon a talan when he visits the well. These are related to the four elements and are: Ka (air), Gandha (earth), Fae (fire) and Eluee (water). Ka is very rare and enables Talans to heal other beings – talan with the Ka essence are called “Shamaz”. Gandha is the most given essence and allows a talan to perform strenuous activity for long periods of time; farmers, fishers, traders and all general workers have it. Fae makes a talan a better fighter and enables Talans to use weapons based on helidium; hunters and soldiers belong to this essence. Eluee is the element of creativity; musicians, artists and artisans have it.

Talans believe that the Yods (gods) look after the balance of the four essences – if this balance is disturbed, the Yods send natural disasters. This happened after Fae Rhan had subjugated the Talans and had started to strengthen the element of Fae. The Yods lessened the rain in Motazaar and sent huge sand storms to Talanzaar (at least this is believed by Talans). Talans also believe that Faé Rhan’s palace was destroyed by the Yods.

Dolotai guardians are the survivors of Fae talan that disagreed with Fae Rhan’s desire to have Fae rule over the other essences; however, many were killed by his soldiers so they are few in number.

Oogoobar

The Oogoobar are primitive talan that live in a tribal society in the forest of Okaar. They are genetically distinct from regular talan due to their pale blue skin and stout features.

Little is known about the Oogoobar since they speak an unknown language and greet their talan brothers with hostility. They have very little technology and live in small camps scattered throughout the forests.
