Cutter Slade (the Ulukai)

Slade is the main protagonist in the world of Outcast. As a former “Navy S.E.A.L.”, he has in the past performed many secret operations for the US army. On a simple training mission he was ordered to prepare the journalist Marion Wolfe and her team for their trip to the rainforests of South America. During this training a terrible accident happened. In a panic Marion made a mistake which led to the death of a team member. Marion’s mother, a well-known senator, sued Cutter, citing that as he was the trainer of the team, he had responsibility for their safety. Eventually Cutter had to leave the navy.

Marion Wolfe

Wolfe is a specialist in the fields of biology and ethnology. After her studies she became a journalist and documented endangered cultures. Because of the accident during the training with Cutter Slade, she gave up her career as journalist and pursued scientific research on natural food. Her latest posting was as head of the laboratory for exobiology at the University of Chicago.

William Kaufmann (Kazar)

Kaufmann conducted research on superstring theory, which says that superstrings (the smallest elements in the universe – quarks are constructed from them) reach into an infinite number of parallel universes. The US military employed him, together with Anthony Xue, to make journeys into these alien worlds possible. Kauffman did not get on well with the ambitious Xue because he always tried to hasten the project.

Anthony Xue (Faé Rhan)

Xue’s primary research at the MIT focussed on the reaction between matter and anti-matter. Due to his own self doubt and constant want to prove his abilities, he attempted to speed up results by doing more and more experiments and caring less and less for security measures. The final consequence was a matter/anti-matter reaction that got out of control. In the following explosion eleven of his colleagues died. Soon after, he had to leave the MIT. Then, the U.S. military approached him and asked him to continue his work for them, under strict top secret terms. Together with Kauffman he made journeys to parallel universes possible. Xue despised Kauffman – he was a better scientist and a much wiser man. Further to this, the military had made Xue the assistant of Kauffman. Xue was just responsible for making the needed energy available.

Zokrym

Zokrym is the leader of the Dolotai Guardians. His goal was to free Adelpha from the horrible reign of Faé Rhan by peaceful means of revolution. He is a strong believer in Kazaar’s prophecy about the Ulukai.

Jan

Jan is Zokrym’s hot-headed son. He is a Dolotai Guardian like his father and wanted to eliminate the regime of Faé Rhan by any means – including violent ones.

Kroax

As Faé Rhan’s right-hand man, he supported Faé Rhan from the beginning and became the leader of all Faé soldiers. He is as cruel as Faé Rhan and obsessed with power.
